TableTalks Seminars—Peer Learning Groups
Background
Janet Boguch, Principal of Non-Profit Works since 1988, founded TableTalks Seminars for Nonprofit Professionals in 1990 to meet the needs of nonprofit professionals who wanted to learn from each other, gain new knowledge and skills and to discuss timely issues and topics relevant to managing and leading nonprofit organizations. There are now several peer learning groups tailored to particular professional roles and functions.
What are TableTalks Seminars?
Described by participants as 'creative, stimulating and supportive', TableTalks Seminars are facilitated, personalized peer-learning groups that are comprised of 10 to 14 participants who meet as a cohort on a monthly basis for three hour sessions that are facilitated by Janet Boguch. The seminar series is designed to meet the needs of the participants in a collegial atmosphere. TableTalks is a forum for discussing practical solutions and brainstorming ideas in a confidential, safe and comfortable setting.
Sessions are held in Janet's homey Capitol Hill/Seattle office; parking is accessible and free! The bus stops one block away.
Each cohort uses its own listserv to communicate and share resources between monthly sessions.
At each monthly session, specific topics are based on participants' requests. Examples have included: Effective Teams; Board Evaluations; Burn-out; Getting Started in Planned Giving; Developing a Philanthropic Organizational Culture, Useful Social Media Networking Strategies, among many others.
The cohort group often selects a book to read and discuss. Examples have included: John Gardner's On Leadership, Lencioni’s Five Dysfunctions of Teams; Malcolm Gladwell’s Tipping Point, articles from the Harvard Business Review, Jim Collin’s Good to Great, Penelope Burk's Donor Centered Fundraising, and many others.

As a Certfied Hudson Institute Coach and as a longtime university and college professor in a variety of professional programs, Janet has provided career development services for many years. Janet is a mentor to many professionals and she excels in providing tools, instilling confidence and providing connections that have helped people find their calling and/or rewarding work. Janet understands how people benefit from having a structure to rely on and a support group when they are investigating their next personal and professional moves.
Meaningful career or life transitions almost always require a period of exploration, experimentation and risk. This peer group format is an excellent place to compose your next step and to design the life you want.
Are you exploring what you want to do next in your personal or professional life? Have you been an at home parent and are now trying to figure out your next steps, possibly in the work place? Are you a manager or leader in an organization who wants to explore other options? Maybe you are considering what your life will be like once you retire from your current job. Are you interested in transforming your life and don’t know where to start?
This series provides an opportunity to share ideas, use tools and do activities that are designed to help clarify your vision, your competencies and your positioning statement. This is a collegial environment in which to learn, build your networks and to have support while you are on this next steps journey.
